Our Mascot: The Gryphon
Sarah Lawrence College's official mascot is the Gryphon. This mythological creature is a symbol of intelligence and strength, and is depicted as having the head and wings of an eagle and the body of a lion.

Athletic activities offered during the first year of the College (1928-1929) included Riding Club, Outing Club, Swimming, Golf, Tennis, Badminton, Archery, and Fencing.

Athletes of the Week
Natasha Leonard
Swimming
This First Year swimmer was named to the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference's All-Conference Team following stellar performances during the HVWAC Championships on Sunday, Jan. 29, and all season long.

Along with All-Conference selections and First Years Jay Pulitano and Rowan Schoales and sophomore Dzana Ashworth, Leonard was part of the Gryphon's 200 Medley Relay that took first place in the first event of the Championships and helped to catapult the team to a 59-point victory over its closest competitors.

Congratulations to Leonard on her first 'Athlete of the Week' win and to the entire women's swim team, #1 in the Hudson Valley Women's Athletics Conference!
Luc Mitchell
Swimming
This junior on the men's swim team has competed for Sarah Lawrence in three varsity sports already this year -- soccer, cross country and swimming -- and is slated for a fourth in the spring as he heads into his first season with the men's volleyball team.

Recently, Mitchell was singled out as the men team's premiere distance freestyler by Head Coach Eric Mitchell, who commended the current tri-varsity athlete for taking a full minute off of his 1,000 yard freestyle in competition against Brooklyn College on Friday night, January 27.

Mitchell achieved the noteworthy improvement by putting in the hard work in pre-season and in practice, his coach said.

Congratulations to Luc Mitchell on his first 'Athlete of the Week' win!
